During a comprehensive pest control treatment, various parts of a home are carefully addressed to ensure thorough coverage and protection. Here’s an outline of key areas typically treated:

  • Interior Spaces: Treatment involves covering ceilings throughout the entire home, providing a barrier against pests that may inhabit these rarely scrutinized spots.
  • Living Areas: Walls in primary areas like the kitchen, lounge, and dining rooms are targeted. These regions are particularly vulnerable due to frequent human activity and food presence, which can attract pests.
  • Joints and Corners: Additional attention is given to wall joins and corners in other parts of the house, where pests often hide or enter unnoticed.
  • Roof and Sub-floor Areas: Spaces such as the roof and sub-floor, which can be prime breeding grounds for pests due to moisture and shelter, are also treated to prevent infestations from starting or spreading.

By targeting these specific areas, pest control professionals ensure a comprehensive approach to making your home pest-free.

INSECT CONTROL AUCKLAND

The European history of the North Shore was initially dominated by rural settlement, with people from the "main" Auckland generally venturing there only during weekends or holidays, when the beaches and many coastal settlements were favourite day tripper goals reached by the ferries connecting the North Shore to Auckland. By the 1950s, only about 50,000 people lived on the Shore, and its growth rate was still about half that of the areas south of the Waitematā, partly because few jobs were on offer.

What Are Synthetic Pyrethroids and How Do They Work in Pest Control?

Synthetic pyrethroids are man-made chemicals that mimic the natural insecticidal compounds found in chrysanthemum flowers. These innovative solutions have revolutionized pest control by offering a balance of potency and safety.

How They Work

  1. Dual Action: These compounds are engineered to target the nervous system of insects. When pests come into contact with a treated surface, synthetic pyrethroids disrupt their nerve function, leading to quick and effective elimination.
  2. Long-Lasting Deterrent: Designed to endure environmental factors such as UV rays and acidity, they maintain their efficacy over extended periods. This resilience not only kills pests but also provides a robust deterrent, keeping unwanted visitors from entering your home in the first place.

Safety and Approval

Despite their powerful action, synthetic pyrethroids are safe for use around humans and pets when used as directed. Carefully formulated, they target insects specifically, minimizing any impact on mammals. Over decades, their safety profile has been thoroughly vetted and approved by health and agricultural authorities, making them a trusted choice in both commercial and residential pest control applications.

Choosing products containing synthetic pyrethroids means opting for a pest control solution that balances efficacy with peace of mind, allowing you to protect your home without compromising on safety.

Why Is It Important to Treat Pest Problems Early?

Addressing pest issues sooner rather than later is critical for several reasons:

  1. Cost-Effectiveness: Tackling pests promptly can save you money. Early intervention usually requires fewer resources, as infestations are smaller and more manageable. Letting pests multiply can lead to expensive control measures.
  2. Prevention of Infestation: By acting early, you stop pests from establishing a stronghold. A few pests can quickly turn into a large problem if left unchecked, making eradication much more challenging.
  3. Protecting Property and Health: Pests can cause significant damage to property and may pose health risks. Early treatment reduces the likelihood of extensive damage and helps maintain a healthy environment.
  4. Ease of Management: Handling a small number of pests is significantly easier for homeowners and exterminators alike. Once pests proliferate, control efforts require much more time and effort.
  5. Peace of Mind: Knowing that your home or business is protected from pests provides peace of mind. Early interventions ensure a pest-free space, allowing you to focus on other priorities.

In summary, early pest control is not just about immediate eradication—it’s about long-term savings, health protection, and effective management of your living or working space.

North Shore Exterminator Frequently Asked questions ( FAQs)

Q: ANTS, WHAT PREPARATION IS REQUIRED FOR ANT TREATMENT ?
A: Nothing. No preparation treatment. You do not need to leave the house.

Q: ANTS, CAN SOME ANTS EAT THE WOOD IN MY HOUSE?
A: No. There are no ant species that eat wood.

Q: ANTS: FOR AN ANT TREATMENT HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO BE OUT OF MY  HOUSE?
A: You don't. We don't do interior spray for ants. You can be there while we do the job.

Q: BEES: IN A STRUCTURE
A: Once bees are inside a structure e.g., a wall they cannot be recovered. Even the Bee association advises they need to be destroyed. If left for some time they will make honeycomb and honey. The honey has a strong pungent odour and will attract more bees in the future. Once they have started making honey you may need to enlist the services of a builder to get inside the structure and remove the honeycomb. Otherwise, new nests of bees will be attracted to smell of the honey.

Q: BEES: OUTSIDE A STRUCTURE (BEE BALL)
A: In spring young vigorous queens leave beehives and take some of the bees with them. They are looking for a suitable place for a new nest. They can form a bee ball. This is where the bees hold onto each other and form a ball of bees. Commonly the ball of bees is suspended from a tree. They are only there for a short time. The good news is that they can be rescued. Call the Bee Association and they will send around a local beekeeper to rehome them. Happy ending for all concerned.

Q: BORER: WHAT PREPARATION IS REQUIRED FOR A BORER TREATMENT?
A: All insulation needs to be removed. All timber needs to be bare (free of paint and varnish). Under the house needs to clear for access to do the treatment. Please clear up hazards e.g. broken glass from under the house.

Q: BORER: HOW LONG DOES A TYPICAL BORER JOB TAKE?

Q: BED BUGS: WHAT PREPARATION IS REQUIRED FOR BED BUGS?
A: Nothing. No preparation treatment.

Q: BED BUGS: HOW MANY BED BUG CALLS TO ACES ARE ACTUALLY BED BUGS?
A: Bed bugs are not common in NZ. Of the people calling saying they have bed bugs, most of these are from UNEXPLAINED BITES. These are people that have not seen a Bed Bug and only have bites. Bed bugs are only 1/20 or less of the people calling in saying they have bed bugs. People with Bed bugs always see them and have no issues sending a photo of one.

Q: BED BUGS: I WENT TO THE DOCTOR WITH SOME INSECT BITES AND HE TOLD ME IT'S BED BUGS?
A: NO! Bites are not diagnostic of the type of pest. Your Doctor is misinformed.

Q: BED BUGS: I HAVE BITES IN A LINE IT MUST BE BED BUGS ?
A: NO! Bites alone cannot diagnose what is biting you

Q: BED BUGS: HOW DO YOU TREAT BED BUGS?
A: Bed bugs require plan based on your situation. This often requires more than just chemical spray.

Q: BED BUGS: I HAVE BITES BUT DON'T HAVE PETS SO IT CAN'T BE FLEAS THEREFORE IT MUST BE BED BUGS?
A: NO! You need to see/ catch/ describe what insect is biting you. Once we have identified the type of pest we can get a plan together.

Q: BED BUGS: I HAVE A FEW BITES FROM AN UNSEEN INSECT IS IT BED BUGS?
A: NO! Bed bugs cannot be diagnosed alone by bites.

A: Please clear any items on windowsills. Pull curtains back and blinds up. Put food away. Cover pet fish (Gold fish).

Q: FLEAS: HOW LONG DOES A FLEA TREATMENT TAKE TO WORK?
A: Our treatments kill all the adult fleas in the house or business immediately. Cocoons if present will all hatch out within 4 weeks. During the first four weeks as the freshly hatched fleas from the cocoons take their first meal may get a few bites. They then perish when they try to grow.

Q: FLEAS: HOW MANY FLEA TREATMENT CUSTOMERS HAVE A DOG OR CAT?
A: Commonly customers do NOT have a cat or dog. Mostly we don't know where the fleas come from.

A: Please put away food, pull up blinds and curtains. Cover pet fish ( Gold fish).

Q: FLIES: DO YOUR FLY TREATMENTS STOP FLIES FLYING INTO MY HOUSE OR BUSINESS?
A: NO! If you want to stop flies coming into your home or business, you need to put up some form of barrier e.g. mesh or close all the doors and windows and air condition the house/business.

Q: MICE:  ARE EASY TO KILL, WHY SHOULD I PAY AN EXTERMINATOR?
A: True mice are stupid easy to kill. But they are rapid breeders. Without the experience of a Professional pest controller, you are unlikely to get them all. Best to trust the professional who nails all of them every time.

Q: MICE: HOW DID THE MICE GET INTO MY HOUSE?
A: Mice are stupid but predictable. For older homes e.g. villas they come up from under house around the pipes. Normally under the kitchen sink. For new homes on a concrete slab, they come in via the garage door. Uncommonly they can come in via trees touching the roof line.

Q: ORGANIC: ARE YOUR TREATMENTS ORGANIC?

A: Nothing. Rats are NO preparation job

Q: RATS: I CAN HEAR RATS IN MY CEILING SPACE, ARE THEY COMING FROM THE STREAM THAT RUNS NEAR MY PROPERTY?

Q: RATS: IF A PEST CONTROL COMPANY USES BAIT TO TREAT RATS WILL THEY DIE INSIDE THE WALLS?

Understanding Internal and External Pest Control Treatments

Pest control treatments are essential for maintaining a healthy and pest-free environment in your home. However, preparing for these treatments varies significantly depending on whether they're internal or external. Here's a look at how they differ:

Internal Treatments: Preparations and Aftercare

Preparation Steps:

  • Food and Kitchen Items: Store away any exposed food items, such as fruit bowls. If you have clean dishes or towels, ensure they are put away, though it's fine to leave out dirty dishes if they'll be washed later.
  • Personal Items: Safeguard hygiene items by storing away toothbrushes, towels, and toilet paper.
  • Pet Concerns: Cover fish tanks and switch off pumps, making sure all pet food is covered or securely stored.
  • Bedding: Pull up your duvet to conceal pillows and cover any baby cots.

Aftercare Steps:

  • Ventilation: Upon returning home—which should be no sooner than four hours after treatment completion—open windows and doors to allow fresh air in for about 10 minutes.
  • Sanitization: Wipe down kitchen surfaces, preferably while wearing rubber gloves to avoid any skin contact with residues.

External Treatments: Key Points to Consider

External pest control requires less preparatory effort and focuses more on the aftercare:

  • Leave Webs Untouched: To maximize treatment effectiveness, spider webs should remain undisturbed for five days. Once this period has passed, they can be swept away with a brush.

By following these guidelines, you ensure a safe and successful pest control process tailored to the specific needs of your home environment.
