West Auckland (Māori: Te Uru o Tāmaki Makaurau) is one of the major geographical areas of Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. Much of the area is dominated by the Waitākere Ranges, the eastern slopes of the Miocene era Waitākere volcano which was upraised from the ocean floor, and now one of the largest regional parks in New Zealand. The metropolitan area of West Auckland developed between the Waitākere Ranges to the west and the upper reaches of the Waitematā Harbour to the east. It covers areas such as Glen Eden, Henderson, Massey and New Lynn.
West Auckland is within the rohe of Te Kawerau ā Maki, whose traditional names for the area were Hikurangi, Waitākere, and Te Wao Nui a Tiriwa, the latter of which refers to the forest of the greater Waitākere Ranges area. Most settlements and pā were centred around the west coast beaches and the Waitākere River valley. Two of the major waka portages are found in the area: the Te Tōanga Waka (the Whau River portage), and Te Tōangaroa (the Kumeū portage), connecting the Waitematā, Manukau and Kaipara harbours.
European settlement of the region began in the 1840s, centred around the kauri logging trade. Later industries developed around kauri gum digging, orchards, vineyards and the clay brickworks of the upper Waitematā Harbour estuaries, most notably at New Lynn on the Whau River. Originally isolated from the developing city of Auckland on the Auckland isthmus, West Auckland began to expand after being connected to the North Auckland railway line in 1880 and the Northwestern Motorway in the 1950s
PEST CONTROL FAQS IN WEST AUCKLAND
Pest control FAQS- Frequently asked questions for WEST AUCKLAND
Q: ANTS, WHAT PREPARATION IS REQUIRED FOR ANT TREATMENT IN WEST AUCKLAND?
A: Nothing. No preparation treatment. You do not need to leave the house.
Q: ANTS, CAN SOME ANTS EAT THE WOOD MY HOUSE IN WEST AUCKLAND?
A: No. None of NZs pest ant species eat wood.
Q: ANTS: FOR AN ANT TREATMENT HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO BE OUT OF MY WEST AUCKLAND HOUSE?
A: You don't. We don't do interior spray for ants. You can be there while we do the job.
Q: BEES: IN A STRUCTURE
A: Once bees are inside a structure e.g., a wall they cannot be recovered. Even the Bee association advises they need to be destroyed. If left for some time they will make honeycomb and honey. The honey has a strong pungent odour and will attract more bees in the future. Once they have started making honey you may need to enlist the services of a builder to get inside the structure and remove the honeycomb. Otherwise, new nests of bees will be attracted to smell of the honey.
Q: BEES: OUTSIDE A STRUCTURE (BEE BALL)
A: In spring young vigorous queens leave beehives and take some of the bees with them. They are looking for a suitable place for a new nest. They can form a bee ball. This is where the bees hold onto each other and form a ball of bees. Commonly the ball of bees is suspended from a tree. They are only there for a short time. The good news is that they can be rescued. Call the Bee Association and they will send around a local beekeeper to rehome them. Happy ending for all concerned.
Q: BORER: WHAT PREPARATION IS REQUIRED FOR A BORER TREATMENT?

Q: MICE: ARE EASY TO KILL, WHY SHOULD I PAY AN EXTERMINATOR?
A: True mice are stupid easy to kill. But they are rapid breeders. Without the experience of a Professional pest controller, you are unlikely to get them all. Best to trust the professional who nails all of them every time.
Q: MICE: HOW DID THE MICE GET INTO MY HOUSE?

Q: WASPS: HOW DO I FIND WHERE THE WASP’S NEST IS?
A: Wasps fly in one of two directions, either to the nest or to a food and/or water source. You need to observe their flight patterns to find their nest.

Q: WASPS: CAN YOU FIND THE NEST ON MY PROPERTY
A: NO. We don't offer a wasp nest finding service. Please find the nest then call us.
