The Coastal Brown ant has two sizes. A small worker ant and a larger guard ant. The larger guard ant has a distinctive big head.
They are found in Auckland suburbs close to the sea where the soils are more sandy.
- Mounds of sand. They often nest under pavers and throw up mounds of sand.
- They always nest outside, rarely nesting inside a home.
- They steal your grout! The use this as insulation for their nest. It leaves unsightly holes in your bathroom grout!
