BED BUG PEST CONTROL AUCKLAND
Are these bites from Bed Bugs?
Customers with an active Bed Bug infestation say, I know I have Bed Bugs because I am seeing Bed Bugs. Then they send a picture of the Bed Bug to my phone or e mail in the next 5 minutes. No problem. Bed Bugs are not subtle and while they like to hide/rest in bed bases/under wooden slats they are easy to find if you look. If you have looked and can't find them, then mostly like you don't have Bed Bugs.
CONFIRMED Bed Bugs when,
- You see a bed bug. Unsure that the insect is a Bed Bug? Snap a photo and send it to the team at ACES.
POSSIBLE Bed Bugs when,
- You have some bites/welts around your neck, face and forearms.
- You find some black marks under the bed base or under the wood slats (not the sheets)
UNEXPLAINED bites when,
- You have bites but do not see an insect.
- You have bites in a line but see no insect
- You have large welts on your body but do not see an insect
- You have a rash but do not see an insect.
- You have the sensation of something crawling on or in your skin but can't see the insect.
Unexplained bites can be from pest related insects but can also from NON pest related issues. In some cases you may need to see your GP about unexplained bites.
What Are Bed Bugs and How Can They Be Identified?
Bed bugs are tiny, parasitic insects that are once again becoming a common concern after decades of relative obscurity. These pests are typically reddish-brown in color and have flat, oval-shaped bodies measuring around 6mm in length when fully grown.
Characteristics of Bed Bugs
- Egg Laying and Development: Female bed bugs can lay up to five eggs daily, with each egg measuring about 1mm and usually whitish, making them hard to spot. Initially, these eggs have a slight stickiness, enabling them to cling to surfaces until they hatch.
- Life Cycle: After hatching, bed bug nymphs are minuscule, comparable in size to a pinhead. They closely resemble adults, albeit smaller and lighter in color. As they mature, they shed their exoskeleton multiple times as they grow following each feeding period.
Feeding Habits
Bed bugs exclusively feast on blood, with a preference for human hosts. However, they can adapt to feed on other warm-blooded animals when necessary.
Signs of Infestation
Identifying the presence of bed bugs in your home involves looking out for several key indicators:
- Blood Spots: Look for small bloodstains on your sheets or mattress, which can occur when bed bugs are accidentally crushed.
- Droppings: Tiny brown spots, akin to pepper grains, can indicate bed bug feces.
- Exoskeletons: As bed bugs grow, they shed their skin. These discarded skins, known as "cast skins," are a clear sign of an infestation.
- Eggs and Casings: Tiny, white eggs and their leftover casings can be found in hidden areas.
Knowing these basic facts about bed bugs can help you recognize an infestation early and take the necessary steps to eliminate them. Remember, early detection is key to minimizing the impact these pests can have on your home and health.

Are Bed Bugs Dangerous to Humans?
While bed bugs don't spread diseases to humans, their bites can still be a nuisance. These tiny insects feed on blood and leave behind small red marks on the skin. Not everyone reacts to bed bug bites, but for those who do, these marks may appear in lines or clusters and can be itchy or painful.
The key concern with bed bug bites is the risk of infection. Scratching the irritated area can lead to open wounds, which may become a gateway for bacteria. In such cases, seeking advice from a healthcare provider is recommended.
In summary, while they aren't inherently dangerous in terms of transmitting diseases, the discomfort and potential complications from bites make them a problematic pest deserving attention.
How do you get rid of Bed Bugs?
We provide Professional Bed bug extermination in Auckland.
Firstly we have a NO PREPARATION treatment for bed bugs. Please do not move anything before we get there.
Then we use five methods for Bed Bug control.
(a) Spot vacuuming. Where there is a large cluster of many Bed Bugs we use a small vacuum to remove them.
(b) SAFE HEAT. Bed bugs are very susceptible to heat. Safe heat also kills bed bug eggs.
(c) Encasement. Where there are bed bugs inside a bed base and or mattress. Encasements traps the bed bugs inside the mattress or bed base and starves them to death.
(d) Traps. These help to monitor Bed Bug number and also reduce down the overall number.
(e) Chemical sprays. Chemicals should be last line of defence for Bed Bugs. Most Bed Bugs are resistant to chemicals. Chemicals are ineffective on Bed Bug eggs. As Bed Bugs wander around your dwelling the entire house needs to be treated if using a chemical spray.
